In Petten, there is a 70 ha site set in beautiful dune landscape and surrounded by nature conservation area. Since the 1960s, research and business activities relating to energy and nuclear medicine have taken place here. Concrete opportunities exist to transform this research location into an open innovation campus and give the outside world greater access to its existing strong knowledge base.
Based on these opportunities, the initiators Stichting ECN/NRG, Municipality of Schagen, Province of North Holland, Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Noord-Holland Noord and Stichting voorbereiding PALLAS Reactor have drawn up a plan to turn the current site into an open innovation campus. A lively campus which will attract top talent in the field of sustainable energy systems and medical isotopes and appeal to the wider public.
The transition to an Energy & Health campus involves various organisational changes. Examples include the merger of ECN and TNO (whereby ECN becomes part of TNO), the unbundling of ECN and NRG and the new cooperation structures which will arise around the PALLAS reactor. These changes provide plenty of new opportunities for research organisations and/or companies to become involved.
